![]() ![]() In order to express themselves fully, both artists utilise photography as well as video to address their chosen theme. Their work focuses on African-American realities and events, while simultaneously highlighting a multitude of human conditions. Over the decades that followed, Bey and Weems explored similar topics – including race, class, representation, and systems of power. The two artists met at the Studio Museum in Harlem in 1977, and have been intellectual colleagues and companions ever since.
